24 Hour Race 2008Another great year for the NorthWest clubs at the 24 hour Race. Light winds and great sunshine greeted all clubs from all over the country. Entertainment, catching up with old friends and sailing from all aspects. South Staffs SC won the Event in a lark. Will an Ent ever win this event? Bolton SC did the North West proud 1st GP and 2nd overall. 3rd were South Staffs with their GP team. 4th was a superb result for Etherow Country Park SC With Tiger Tony Woods as Captain. They were also 1st Enterprise I’m sure this is their clubs highest ever achievement. In 5th Place was Soul sailors Racing Association also in an Enterprise 2nd Ent Overall. 6th place went to Pilkington Sailing Club amazingly starting in flight 4 breaking their way into the top ten and eventually finish 3rd Enterprise overall. The highest place Pilkington SC has ever achieved at the 24-hour race. Budworth SC near Rochdale came in 7th sailing a GP another great success for the North West Sailing Clubs Chester came in 8th Place; not bad for all the oldies that sailed they won 1st place in the Masters Team (over 40). I’m sure not by much though. 9th was Ogston SC, I know there not from the NorthWest but have adopted them as one of the NorthWest. Only just out side I might ad. Burwain (B) came in 12th in a GP. Little George Graham sailed brilliantly well for such a young age. Most clubs put on a B team and a C team for the less experienced sailor. I’m sure this is to give sailors a taste of racing and to see what it’s all about. A total of 67 boats took part and I’m sure everybody enjoyed the event all though some enjoyed more than others. This event is Yachts & Yachting – 100 Regattas to do before you die. It’s in the top ten. If you have been to the event, you will defiantly know why. Thank You to WLYC for holding a fantastic Event Happy Race Sailing Steve Blackburn |
