Bassenthwaite SC Enterprise Open MeetingIt was the Start of Bass Week, which is now an institution of superb sailing from fast handicap to slow. Including fleets from RS 200, Enterprises and many more. The weather wasn’t quite as kind it was overcast and blowing a shifty force 4-6. Over a 100 boats on the start line but 15 minutes later the Enterprise fleet took hold of the start with Steve Blackburn & Nick Hampson perfectly starting on leeward flag. Eddie Pilling & Dave Boustead (Arnside) took the lead at the windward mark and Secure their win. Mark Dingsdale & Alan Roberts (Pilkington) Was 2nd sailing In Steve’s Black Betty. Pete & Jack Lawson (Bass) came in 3rd for race 1. Race 2, soon appeared, any of the top ten had a chance of winning due to the close racing but fitness and mistakes where starting to take their toll. Phil Wilson & Chris Bridge (Ogston) lead the race from the start but David & Jackie Gebhard (Derwent Res) Managed to break through and win the race with Peter and Eddie in 2nd and 3rd. After a night of drink, music and fun Sunday made it’s presence with sore heads and less wind. Race 3. Pete & Jack Lawson carried on their great form to win in very shifty conditions. David & Jack Gebhard were only a few boat lengths behind to take 2nd. Eddie and Dave secured 3rd. The final race. This was gonna be fun. The top 3 sailors had a chance of winning. The race began. Pete & Jack had an atrocious start. Alan Baker and Gill Kincaid (Tynmouth) were flying in first place. They lost just a place to take 2nd. David and Jackie just couldn’t pass Alan and finished 3rd. Well the winner of this race came from last to finish first. I think you could say some of the best sailing we have ever seen. Pete & Jack took first place and winning the Open Meeting.
